2009

January 3rd, 2009 · 2 Comments · News

Here we go again with the start of another year, a year that will bring untold happiness for some but unfortunately great sadness and sorrow for others.

For most of us however it will simply be another year, Valentines, Easter, holidays and Halloween, Fireworks and then back to Christmas. The inbetween is filled with work, school and parents evenings, proms and parties.

Whats are your hopes and fears for 2009?

What would be good is if some other opinionated people would contribute to this website, go on…..you know you want to!

2009 – I hope to revisit Kirby Muxloe as my elderly mom lives there. It’s a long journey from Queensland , Australia but obviously seeing family, visiting Desford where I used to live, will be worth the several years savings its costing me.

Whilst there I will have my work cut out trying to find people to help with mum who lives alone. Ive tried to do this over the internet but its impossible. Mum now needs some help with keeping her garden tidy, an occasional handyman to call on and stuff like that. Being on her own, she knows to be wary of folk she doesn’t already know and is reticent call someone from the phonebook.

Ive asked both the church and the social services for help getting mum an occasional visitor, or someone she can call on to run an errand or take her to the Drs.

My enquiries have either been ignored or the charges for help from social services are too high.
Mum is very lonely, hardly goes out or sees anyone and is getting more and more frail. She has given 20 years or so to voluntary work in Kirby Muxloe and been active in the community but now no-one even calls to ask how she is. Its sad.

So, Im hoping to visit as soon as I can and hope its not too cold..brrrr
