All Snowed In

February 3rd, 2009 · No Comments · News

How was your day yesterday? Were you one of those yhat battled on regardless with old values like work to eat? Did you try hard but were forced to surrender to the conditions or did you take a look out of the window and take the conditions and news items as a good excuse to get back into bed?

Me? I looked out of the window and saw a picturesque beginning to the day, but then i did’nt have to out and that makes a big difference. My husband works from home so he had no concerns, but my children were a little more unfortunate. My eldest needed to drive back to sunderland and was unable, my youngest was grateful for an unscheduled day off school but what utter chaos.

Given the forecast gave plenty of warning of what was to come, why were the schools so unprepared? Maybe I’m oldfashioned and whilst the tree system, (a train of pre-organised communication) worked or works well in primary schools of relatively small numbers of pupils, larger or comprehensive schools require a different method but just as effective. I appreciate that Leicester Sound relay this information, but should’nt the school itself? The school is the first port of call for most students and parents so a simple pre-recorded message would be so easy and more serviceable than what was “not” available.
