The recent headlines regarding M.P.’s expenses has been a significant eye-opener for many of us as voters. Does knowing what is claimed for and for how much alter your views on politics and polititions?
Like others I have heard and read many opinions of either those defending themselves, or those attacking. I’m sure each of us have gained an insight that has prompted us to question our judgement. What I would really like to know is the expenses claimed for by our Kirby Councillors, I’m positive that many views and opinions held of them would also be open to change if given the knowledge.
Well, rumour has it, or rather “twitter” does, that the Leicester Mercury are looking into publishing exactly that, our council representatives expenses.
From my cynical point of view the chances are, you’re either shouting at the television for being stupid enough to get caught and hope a hornest nest has’nt been opened for everyone, as you too are in a position where you can make an up to the limit claim. Whereas if you’re on the side of the aggressor you’re still shouting at the T.V. but moreso because you’re angry, you feel used, abused and violated, and probably more because you’re not in a position to do the same.
I hope the Mercury is able to publish this information and prefeably before the elections in June, but i hazard a guess this is why they’re doing it, if indeed they are.
