New Gift Shop

July 23rd, 2009 · 6 Comments · community

It’s always welcoming to see a new business arrival, “Cherry Tree Gifts” at Cherry Tree Court. I have not managed to get up there myself but if there are gifts ranging from cards and paper to jewellery, and from toys to bespoke furniture, it’s worth taking a look.

wishing them all the best in a new enterprise, The Kirby Muxloe Village Website.

Yes, I have noticed this shop and I too wish them well, because they seem to have gone to a lot of effort and it’s nice to think that the shop is finally being used after having been empty for so long. It’s also nice that the shop hasn’t been converted to another office or even worse a flat.

I’m not really sure whether the products on sale are the sort of things that local residents will want to buy and I suspect that the outdoor cafe side of the business may prove to be more popular than the merchandise.

It would also be nice if someone could open up the newsagents next door which has been closed down for so long since the previous incumbents ran it down so badly.

Mr Parry your negative comments regarding the gift shop are not necessary.

Why dont YOU run the newsagents if your such an business Guru!

I notice that “Barries” next door has opened up again by someone else trying to sell cheap alcohol.

When will they learn that those sorts of shops are not going to work around here – look what happened to Booze Busters. All it leads to is ant-social behaviour and aggravation for the elderly residents.

What does the word “Barries” mean anyway ?

    Do they mean “Barry’s” ?

Maybe it should be “Berries”, as in Strawberries.

I never did understand what “Barries” meant.

I think if you re-read my posting, you will see that I was actually very complimentary and encouraging indeed towards the new gift shop and actually pointed out that it is far better for the area if the premises are occupied by a thriving business, rather than an empty shop.

I’d be interested to know which of my comments regarding the gift shop offended you so much

With regards to the off-license, I’m certainly no business guru, but I have the advantage of having watched the previous incumbent fail after offering a similar product mix – i.e. “pile ‘em high, sell ‘em cheap booze” which only leads to anti-social behaviour.

Surely I can express an opininion can’t I, especially as nobody else seems to ever comment on (or possibly even read) the articles that get published on this website.

barrys sells papers and sweets and milk and bread and its better than not having a shop at all!!! lets support our local shops and not go on about places selling booze. if kids want to get drunk they will get drunk if barries is there or not

My wife and I (mainly my wife!) run “Cherry Tree Gifts” and Whilst Barries may hit our soft drink sales, we are happy to have it open. It gets people into Cherry Tree Court and hopefully noticing all the shops down there. It would be nice to think we could create some kind of local community feel back in the area like it had years ago when Dave’s fruit and veg was there, the VG stores supermarket, and also the old newsagent. To gain this we need to get residents down there. Young and old. With regards to Barries selling cheap booze – we as next door neighbours have seen nothing to suggest it is having a bad effect on the area. The shop being open brings more passing trade to the area, getting all shops noticed, which can only be a good thing. Surely having something available to save people travelling to a supermarket, Fosse Park or even Town is better for locals.
