We are finally entering into a no cold calling zone, will it make a difference? I hope so.
A visit from PCSO Duane Wright made me more aware of exactly what being within a no cold calling zone meant. One of the priorities of our village policing pledge is to reduce the risk of distraction burglaries and other similar crimes following the identification of our elderly and vulnerable residents.
So what do we need to do? As far as I am aware, and I am quite happy to be corrected if I’ve misinterpreted, when receiving traders at the door take necessary details, ie name of company, what they are selling etc. and report it to the police and or Leicestershire County Councils Trading Standards Department. The process of making them realise the fact that their trade, service or attention is not wanted in Kirby may not be quick, but with persistence the message will get through and our elderly residents can be assured of their safety and security. Not just this but it will stop the walking “spam” from trying to sell us things we already have or do not want.
Easier said than done though confronting salesmen, yes they offer identification but taking it to view and take notes is something else, not all of us have that kind of confidence.
Either way I am now just awaiting my window notice to display.
