We wish you a Kirby Christmas

December 8th, 2009 · 36 Comments · community

As suggested a post about the lack of christmas spirit in Kirby from the Parish Council. When surrounding villages like, “Groby looks like Blackpool and Glenfield has been transformed into Narnia on the roundabout”, “NOT SO special kirby has nothing!!!”

I contacted the Parish Council today to ask for their current position on christmas trimmings, I had to leave a message and nobody has got back to me as yet, I will let you know the response if and when I get one.

In the December publication of “The Kirby Comment” Parsons Patch informs us, that because of the dreadful state of public finances  expenditure has to be reduced by £70 m over the next four years, “inevitably some services will have to be reduced”; that will be our lights then. He is however looking forward to the Christmas season and especially carols around the tree, so he has our tree…….  in his pocket maybe, I do hope the baubles don’t break we will not afford replacements, not in this economic climate!

On behalf of all the tax paying residents of our village that wish for the council to get in the Christmas spirit, a petition has been draughted and will hopefully be handed out to be signed locally tomorrow.

I do unfortunately fear we may be too late for 2009. I also fear that given the current economic climate we will be outshone in 2010 also.

Where are the ghosts of Christmas past when you need them!

Thats Great – I am sure many will sign it ! Heres to some lights ………?

It’s all good news with the petitions etc but with anything political it’s only down to one key area……… FUNDING!!

If only everyday was a ‘pay day for Ray’!!

It really is a shame that we haven’t got Christmas lights in the village. The Village show committee have provided the lights in the Royal Oak car park ( and they also do a great job organising the village show each year). Christmas is a special time of the year and the parish council could provide some lights in the village, their “Carols round the Tree”event is always popular so they know how important the Christmas spirit is!
A good place for lights would be on the trees opposite the post office to be seen as you drive along Main Street.

Just need to know, did me and my family miss some kind of santa show over the last few days. Its just that as i drove past the local sports club, and i seen two little adults in the car park, which i thought were santas elfs. Not sure who they were but one of them had a pool que in his hand.

Yeah that would be danny nice fellar just a wee bit vertically challenged. My saggy son paul can always help putting some lights up for the village

Well I never thought that Kirby would become so dull! I used to walk my little dogs with my son Brendan round the park with a bounce in our steps! This was the mid to late 90s and i feel that kirby has lost its identity and xmas lights would re-enforce the community spirit and make this village great again

Strange that Frank, I say strange as me missus Kath has also been seeing ghosts of our dogs, Molly and Sheba. Must be some sort of Christmas spook??

Tell you what, its good to see them though, ghosts or not. Brings back memories of when me and my son Bren used to run free on Kirby park with them. We used to meet up with other fellow dog walkers such as Kinghorn and the bloke that stunk who lived near the Store.
