As suggested a post about the lack of christmas spirit in Kirby from the Parish Council. When surrounding villages like, “Groby looks like Blackpool and Glenfield has been transformed into Narnia on the roundabout”, “NOT SO special kirby has nothing!!!”
I contacted the Parish Council today to ask for their current position on christmas trimmings, I had to leave a message and nobody has got back to me as yet, I will let you know the response if and when I get one.
In the December publication of “The Kirby Comment” Parsons Patch informs us, that because of the dreadful state of public finances expenditure has to be reduced by £70 m over the next four years, “inevitably some services will have to be reduced”; that will be our lights then. He is however looking forward to the Christmas season and especially carols around the tree, so he has our tree……. in his pocket maybe, I do hope the baubles don’t break we will not afford replacements, not in this economic climate!
Yes I also think it is a shame that Kirby has no Village Lights. Groby and Glenfield have really done a good job, and I understand that this is down to the Parish Councils in these villages. I would have thought that our lights would have been up by now. Perhaps we are not having any – anyone want to start a whip round see what we can get ?!
My family have been discussing this topic the other day. I am new to the village and have never lived anywhere like this where surrounding villages have lights provided by a Parish Council and we don’t. Seems such a shame. Why is this ? Has it been over looked? I see the Carols around the tree are inside and this is limited tickets. Village lights should be to benefit everyone and I am sad to see that this village is so “in the dark” to quote a previous comment. So much for festive cheer !
Come one Parish Council!! Get some lights up.. it’s not too late. If you need some inspiration come and have a look at mine “up Barons Close”!! You should easily be able to afford them now that you are charging the junior kids to play football on the park at the weekend!!!
Kirby Resident, you have a valid point regards the pond located behind the Community Centre, it does seem overgrown and stagnant! Yet again, the Council demonstrating negligence! Somebody involved with the parish once told me, “this great landmark of the village (meaning the pond) will be cater for with no expense spare!” Pah! Nothing spare from Mrs Buckinghams booze cabinet more like. As for any signs of living organisms orientating within, all ive managed to spot is a semen ridden condom, probably a contribution from one of the heroin addicts, who choose to gather there, and kindly urinate in to the marsh!
My Grandchildren stay with me over Christmas and I agree with these comments – maybe the Parish Council are a little “out of touch ” It would be nice to have some lights like other villages and I would think that Kirby of all places would be able to afford it ? Is too late to have some lights sorted out for the village – or will we have to wait until Next Year? I would interested to know the Parish Council feedback on this .
Go to their next meeting, then
The Problem with the parish Council is that there are too many councillors and they cannot agree on the most trivial of things. They waste money on expensive CCTV systems which i believe are not necessary in a village like kirby as it is not exactly like the wild west!!! They spends thousands on things like this but do not supply proper xmas lights which would cost a couple of hundred quid!
Ever been to a Parish Council meeting? If you’re not happy with what they’re doing, why don’t you become a councillor? Then there would be one more !! Criticise from inside, not your armchair….
I think a petition to the Parish Council showing how many people would like some Christmas Lights may help. It is a poor show !
A valid point by ‘Ring et Brun’ aka J. Brown. Who can we get to draft up a petition though? Is anybody willing to put their name to it? If not, will the website kindly take responsibility? If so, this is a great idea and could be left in all the shops for customers to sign.
Everybody is talking about petitions and how ‘dull’ Kirby is, however, its not all the council’s responsibility. Residents can also chip in. I tried to inject some Christmas spirit in to the village years ago by dressing up as Father Christmas. I travelled around the village at night on a big sleigh that was pulled on a trailor by a car. It was nicely decorated and we had Christmas carols playing too. Unfortunately, teenagers threw rotten apples at me shouting “Your not Santa, its just Danny Devito dressed up”. It was comments like these that dampened my Christmas spirit and may be a factor that has contributed to nobody else taking on this role??
haha yeh i remember mr c that was one hell of a night.
I would love u to do it again, this time i might use eggs hahahaha.
