A recent comment that was potentially misplaced in Kirby Characters reads, “Barries the shop on Barry Drive has closed down. However me and my associate are after the Lease and change of use proposal for Kirby Fisheries opening mid 2010″. ThisĀ struck me as somewhat odd, given that earlier in 2009 a communication was received asking to place an advertisement on the site in jobs and vacancies for, “staff wanted for a new chip shop” coincidentally named Kirby Fisheries, but it was not actually located in Kirby Muxloe.
According to Blaby District Council neither would this one be as Barry Drive is officially within the boundaries of Leicester Forest East, also pointed out in the November post along with only one application which was declined.
So what we ask is this, is the chip shop fact or fiction and if true would it be welcome? I say fiction having spoken to the planning department at the council late last year and given the area where they wish to locate it. Would I welcome it, for the number of times I would use it, no loss no profit really, but what say you?
Barry drive is classed by the locals who live in the main village as kirby and in my eyes will always be kirby. the chip shop will happen this year
This proposal would be turned down everytime. This very quite area would be totally against any takeaways opening, people have tried & failed to get planning for this.
The only suitable location in Kirby would have to be High St close to pub – One Stop etc where businesses open late at night!!!
Could you not open a chippy on pub car park where hairdressers was?
best place would be the bungalow next to the post office that is directly opposite the oak! Just need the current owners to sell. Barry Drive is the next place though and to be fair every shop that has opened closes so the chippy might drag more business into the area
The point is no one in the Barry drive estate would want any takeaway in the shops. The trouble – noice – smell – traffic – kids/yobs hanging around would turn this very quite area into a dump.
What about a chippy van on pub car park surely a better solution than a permanant one.
I am suprised Barries hasnt worked I believe the owners should stay with it a bit longer as it takes time to change peoples shopping habits.
If not it would make a excellent drop in centre for the local Police & maybe council giving each a presence at both ends of the village.
I dont think there would be any yobs hanging around barry drive. The only problem would be parking. If it was a nice clean place it would be good. Not sure about drop in centre though
Apart from yobs hanging around – noice – traffic – litter – smells – another factor would be that there are flats on the ground floor next to this shop & I dont think they or the other shops would be happy with a takeaway next door!!!! It is a complete non starter in this quiet residential area & with the police now cracking down on anti – social behavior what could be more anti -social than putting a takeaway in this area.
Chip shop? mmmmmmmm yes please!
