So here we go again!
This general election has brought about much mealtime discussion in our house, my eldest has just voted for the first time. It has been traditional for us to stay up until the results are in despite generally having strong suspicions of which party will win. This time however is more than a one horse or two-horse race.
This is the first time for many youngsters to vote and after discussion my daughter and I, out of interest, completed 3-4 of these party comparison survey websites, but only to reach 3-4 different results. Chatting on Facebook as many people do she told me that many of her age-group are or have voted for the Liberal Democrats. Also on the Vote for Policies site the majority result after 286.000 at 12.30 was also in favour of the Liberal Democrats.
I was telling her how discussion on politics and religion were considered taboo subjects given the rise in agitation they cause. She aid without discussion how are we to assess what difference a vote could make, we are happy to air our opinions Then informing her of how household were once visited by party representative in an effort to gain a vote, she asked why did they stop.
Outcome of this was her suggestion to have a meeting in the village hall in the run up to elections where party representatives can be available to answer questions, not just on their policies but more so what they can do for us and for Kirby. We are not all old school and voting as our parents did or their parents, or their parents parents etc…… what we will we get this time, a Conservative for a change?
I think that would be a good idea, after all it’s only once every 5 years and it’s not as is there was no time for organising it.
I think you’ll find it’s every FIVE years……
Now corrected, I missed the digit but thank you
What a shambolic election.
I blame the media. Too much hype and concentration on the party leaders ( TV debates etc. ) and not enough on the parties themselves. It should not be a popularity poll between three TV personalities. It may work in the US but it sure needs looking at over here.
Result; voters on seeing their election slips possibly thinking , ‘hang on a minute, this is not the man I saw on TV!’
Surely there must have been some confusion? Some voters probably do not know who their constituency candidate is; only the party they favour.
One solution could be; alter the voting slip so that the party is clearly shown in bold type at the top of the box and the local candidate in smaller type below.
Quite agree, Ariadne. There’s a lot that needs to be changed, including the ridiculous fee that people manning polling stations receive – heard it’s £300.
to stop a hung parliament they should keep the polling stations open another 24 hours so people can vote again and make up for their mistake of voting labour of lib dem!!! no one has said this and again whistleblower shows his intelligence!!!
Huh !! If you were intelligent, you’d realise that one spells the word “or” with an “r”, and NOT with an
“f”. Perhaps you’re dyslexic, though you’d probably
spell it as “disleksik”.
What you should be concentrating on is the crazy
mathematics of a Lib-Lab coalition, which depends on the nationalists, such as the SNP, supporting it.
The SNP are hardly likely to support a Westminster
government, which currently rejects an independ-
ent Scotland.
Now, THAT is an intelligent viewpoint……..
The mess is to do with the older generation, having traditional values and voting as mummy and daddy did/do. Silver spoon fed politicians that have never had to earn money just ask for it, or to attend a state school but think they know better how to run them.
Conservative Kirby, no wonder we’re all going to suffer. Our college election day was a clear win by the liberal democrats, but what do we know. If you didn’t fight in the great war and smell of formaldehyde you neither mind or matter, ACTUALLY WE DO!! And we are losing brothers, dads, friends and uncles too so don’t spout that one at us.
You will find that people voted Conservative because people are fed up with Gordon Brown and namby pamby people like yourself and the lib dems!!! The Lib dems would open the flood gates and let ten times more immigrants who cant be bothered to learn English into the Country!!! So be quiet and behave
In Charnwood the Liberal Democrats took a bigger percentage of Labours votes than the Conservatives did, and proportionally the swing to the BNP was of more significance, I’m sure they were grateful to you. A country of hard-working immigrants is preferential to white supremacist snobs like yourself and the Conservatives.
Looks like Whistleblower continues to provoke yet another person who dares to disagree with his bigoted views. It would be a massive improvement if HE were to shut up and behave.
Mathematics??? Since when was mathematics involved in Politics?? You really are a fool trying to look clever when in fact you are just a clown
You wont be saying that when you lose your job to a immigrant or are you on the Sausage Roll?
