Kirby Muxloe FC, in the 9th tier of Football League, are taking on Crewe Alexandra, nursery of the some of the most famous names in British football, in a pre-season friendly on the evening of Monday, August 1 – kick off 7.30pm.
This is a fantastic opportunity to support the village, support the village club and support the village football team, which plays in the United Counties League. At just £5 per adult (£3 concessions) and kids go free with an adult – it’s an absolute bargain. Parking is free.
Gary Keenan, Chairman of Kirby Muxloe Sports & Village Club, says: “Crewe sent a team last year and it was a wonderful evening for the opening of the new stand. The club’s decision to send a team on Monday next week underscores their commitment to grass roots football and the development of young talent.”
Crewe Alexandra has a worldwide reputation for developing and generating talent. Former Leicester City stars Neil Lennon and Robbie Savage were given their chance to shine there, and the Crewe Academy has brought through a host of stars including Owain fon Williams and David Vaughan, who were in the Welsh squad for Euro 16, and Dean Ashton, Danny Murphy and Rob Jones, who have all played for England.
It’s a fair bet that the team that Crewe bring to Kirby Muxloe on Monday will include young players who will go on to represent their country. Get down to the Ratby Lane ground on Monday – the bar opens at 5.30pm and there’s a BBQ run by the club Juniors – and see some of the football stars of tomorrow.
