It tells us who began the tradition, why he did, where and when he did, and a little of the story behind the sign.

There are only three in Leicestershire so far of which ours is one, Earl Shilton and Ratby being the others. We have a link from their website so believe it only fair that we return the favour/gesture.

Take a look, you may find one that brings back a memory or two, it may even inspire you to visit the place and make a memory or two.

I’m assuming the meeting did not go ahead for obvious reasons. Perhaps contacting Leicestershire County Council as I have done today, (should have done it last week) would have put peoples minds at rest and prevented any misunderstandings.

For future reference the Count Council will always provide any changes in writing. If I feel an idiot for not checking, and I do, how must the person who initiated the flyers and meeting be feeling?

The problem has now been rectified and I am in the process of dealing with each one, again very sorry. In connection to “Major New Development” there are now links to both Kirby Muxloes and Glenfields Parish Council websites with thanks to both of them for publishing details of the pro-active steps that have been taken against the application. There are also statements made and questions asked which do not necessarily relate to a specific post so forums are going to be introduced to allow you to voice your own opinions on your chosen topics.

So here we go again!

This general election has brought about much mealtime discussion in our house, my eldest has just voted for the first time. It has been traditional for us to stay up until the results are in despite generally having strong suspicions of which party will win. This time however is more than a one horse or two-horse race.

This is the first time for many youngsters to vote and after discussion my daughter and I, out of interest, completed 3-4 of these party comparison survey websites, but only to reach 3-4 different results. Chatting on Facebook as many people do she told me that many of her age-group are or have voted for the Liberal Democrats. Also on the Vote for Policies site the majority result after 286.000 at 12.30 was also in favour of the Liberal Democrats.

I was telling her how discussion on politics and religion were considered taboo subjects given the rise in agitation they cause. She aid without discussion how are we to assess what difference a vote could make, we are happy to air our opinions Then informing her of how household were once visited by party representative in an effort to gain a vote, she asked why did they stop.

Outcome of this was her suggestion to have a meeting in the village hall in the run up to elections where party representatives can be available to answer questions, not just on their policies but more so what they can do for us and for Kirby. We are not all old school and voting as our parents did or their parents, or their parents parents etc…… what we will we get this time, a Conservative for a change?

I think that would be a good idea, after all it’s only once every 5 years and it’s not as is there was no time for organising it.

The previous post led you to briefly guess on the position and amount of land earmarked for a significant developement. Blaby District Council has received an application to develop 56 industrial units as well as the allocation of an extensive plot for 250 new homes and possibly fast food outlets to serve them by Wilson Bowden.

If this was to go ahead Kirby Muxloe will have no boundary to separate us from Glenfield. There would be huge repercussions for schools, doctors and dentists as well as a huge impact on neighbouring roads with increased traffic pollution furthering an assault on climate change, and whats more there will be a substantial encroachment on the haven for wildlife.

Why was there only 4 days notice allowing limited advertising and notification for a public meeting? Yes the 3500 page document was and is available to view but being of such length it would have been exceptionally difficult for any number of us to view it, or was that the intention,? If you wish you could purchase a copy for the meagre amount of £400 but still not in sufficient time to process it to attend any public meeting with sufficient background knowledge of agenda, am I the only one that smells a rat?

Fore more in-depth detail visit either Leicestershire Kirby Muxloe Parish Council website or Glenfield Parish Council for pro-active steps that have been taken on behalf of all of us.

There have been 3 comments recently added on the “council cuts” post of February this year remarking on 5 to 7 councillors quitting. In light of this I contacted the Parish Council to ascertain if there were any truth in the matter.

I cannot recall who answered the phone, but I informed him of who I was and that I manage the other sometimes controversial village website. I mentioned the recent comments regarding councillors quitting and when asked if this were true, aftera short pause he said “yes”. Given the tone of his voice it was obvious he would not or could not supply who or why, or in fact the number whom he said, “handed in their resignation”.

So! who and why have our coucillors resigned?

(dates and times incorrect – see original post)

Did you catch David Parsons on the news yesterday regarding the 66 million pounds of approved cuts to Leicestershire’s County Councils Budget? Services earmarked include school bus services, libraries and road repairs amongst others. Whilst there are fears for the young, the elderly and the vulnerable, a budget loss of this size is likely to impact on everyone.

Also in the plans are the loss up to 650 council jobs, does that mean that the total claims for expenses will be lower than the £879,598 for last year, somehow I doubt it.

With time away due to illness, what has been happening and what is to come?

Luke Bowyer a young Kirby resident of 6 organised a table top sale and collected £325 for Haiti earthquake survivors. The Royal Oak has made it into the top 10 restaurants guide in the Leicester Mercury last week. Kirby House is one of the care homes earmarked for closure or sale, which in turn could save the conservative run council £1million a year if sold to the private sector. So just £69 million left to find.

The next event on the calendar is Shrove Tuesday on the 16th February when it is time to eat the items Christians are not permitted during lent, hastily followed by schools half term from Monday the 19th of February to Friday 23rd.

What else has been happening or about to, let us know?

As suggested a post about the lack of christmas spirit in Kirby from the Parish Council. When surrounding villages like, “Groby looks like Blackpool and Glenfield has been transformed into Narnia on the roundabout”, “NOT SO special kirby has nothing!!!”

I contacted the Parish Council today to ask for their current position on christmas trimmings, I had to leave a message and nobody has got back to me as yet, I will let you know the response if and when I get one.

In the December publication of “The Kirby Comment” Parsons Patch informs us, that because of the dreadful state of public finances expenditure has to be reduced by £70 m over the next four years, “inevitably some services will have to be reduced”; that will be our lights then. He is however looking forward to the Christmas season and especially carols around the tree, so he has our tree……. in his pocket maybe, I do hope the baubles don’t break we will not afford replacements, not in this economic climate!

Long standing characters of the village like Malcom from the Post Office and Jerry from Hartley’s are very sadly missed. A couple that I greatly miss, albeit not as long-standing as those previously mentioned, are Jaz & Max and The Family Store on Barwell Road.

Given the support received at a charity event held last month at Kirby Primary School, In remembrance of their daughter tragically lost to meningitis, I know for sure that many others do too.

So we are compiling a list here, anymore to add? Perhaps we could have a Kirby “This is your Character Life” at the Village Hall, who would you have as the host?
