“Hog Roast” Rieview

Heart FM presenter Amy Voce was at The Castle Hotel on Saturday supporting the Hog Roast Prostaid charity event. Chairing the auction having lost her father to prostate cancer, auctioned items included a flying lesson, a signed sugarbabes poster and a signed Ashes cricket bat amongst others. Unfortunately I did not stay until the end so am not aware of the amount of funds raised.

The tribute band “The Upbeatles” performed as well as “Elvis” with extra performances when unfortunately “Neil Diamond” had to cancel.

The evening went well and appeared to be enjoyed by all, excepting neighbours whom complained about the noise levels at 9:30 pm, a resounding boo was echoed from the audience.

In my opinion the venue let the event down in more ways than one. Having cordoned off the garden area, for obvious reasons, it left a substantial trek for disabled visitors and there was an inadequate provision of seating. The major downside to me was the food, although a banquet was not expected, neither was more than an hours queuing for it, could have been, should have been better.

This is just my opinion of course, please feel free to add yours.

We’ve had an email from Pete whose band are playing at the Castle Hotel on the 8th of August. It’s a Charity tribute / Hog Roast. All proceeds go to Prost-aid.

Formed originally as the “BBC Radio Leicester All Stars” to raise funds for the Rainbows children’s hospice in Leicestershire, the band was part of BBC Radio Leicester’s 40th birthday ‘Ruby Rainbow Appeal’.

If you type Kirby Muxloe into google “kirbymuxloe.net” is currently the third website on the page below the maps and the golf club, it could be a very beneficial link for you and for us in our aim to make a successful commnicative site for residents and visitors alike. We believe that if there is something you need or want it would be so much easier and favourable to find it closer to home. Readers can then see reviews of other customers as there is a tendency to trust people you know and word of mouth has always been a lucrative method of communication.

There is no cost or ever will be, this is simply an attemt to create a site that will hopefully encompass all the aspects of community life in our village. Independant ly authorised and managed, just one click and your in and able to find what you need, what you want to know and where to find it.

If anyone knows of any forthcoming events that will be of interst to the community, let us know because the calendar is sparse, empty in fact.

Perhaps you are organising something and would like to let residents and further afield know about it, or would like to put out an event you would like to be sen/held in the village.

Again putting it out there that regular or permanent contributions are needed to help this site flourish in its informative status, and needless to say would be very, very, welcome. Take a look at the about page and see if you might be interested in writing a column or post.

Is anyone else in Kirby being attacked by mosquittos? Me! no, but for some strange reason my husband appears to be on a mosquito blood bank register, nightly. What is even stranger to me is that his blood cannot possibly be sweet, fruity or tasty in anyway, no Victor Meldrew type on a cocktail of medication could possibly offer a decent menu

Don’t forget to come along this Sunday to the Community funday at the village hall and recreation ground to help support The Parish Councils’ project of a New Multi Use Games Area. Last year around a £1000 was raised when local beat officer, PC Carl Sutherley gave his support by organising the funday.

The fete will be open from 1-5 and there will be-

Children’s rides and a bouncy castle Face painting Kids five-a-side football tournament

Stalls & games BBQ, & Refreshments Performances by local groups A Raffle

Leicester Sound’s Rae & Kev and the Thunder Crew will be there, so come along and show your support and .contribute towards it by having a fun family day
