A reminder of our history was brought to the forefront of some locals minds yesterday when Mr Boyd discovered what he thought to be “a mortar bomb” in the garden when laying some slabs. The police were alerted, confirmed by Sgt Rachael Payne that bomb disposal were also contacted and fortunately for them/us it emerged to be the tail end of a flare.

He then questions how many more unearthed ww2 bombs there may be in Kirby as we were the most bombed village in England.

On checking I do have to change that line/link on the Wartime Kirby page, it has now been edited and we are now mentioned on Wikipedia as being heavily bombed.

With thanks to Mr Boyd for contacting us with his slab laying ordeal wit underlying message, keep your eye on what times past your gardening pastime may dig up.

I was disgusted this morning to hear on the news that the coalition government want to scrap the NHS Direct Service. To me it is typical of the conservative Government to scrap the services that the “not so well off as them” need.

What has this to do with Kirby?, simply because the majority of residents here voted for the conservatives. David Parsons is having to go back on his pledges with £22,000,000 of possible constraints on the services. The best bit is that we are all going to have to bite the bullet, to quote Mr. P. “We all know the public sector faces incredibly tough financial challenges, but we are going to face these with the help of our residents”.

What help, enlighten me? without trying to open a war on politics, which of us are going to give the most and by what means?

I’ve asked this before, what do you think would make it better living in Kirby Muxloe?

We have a car park that residents cannot park on for any reasonable time span so the streets become one and are getting dangerous for the elderly and young. We have only one side of the village we can get a bus from, and we have a primary school that has had to expand to accommodate the increasing number of children. It’s hard getting a drs appointment compared to how it was 20 years ago, 10 or even 5, can’t we have our own surgery! We are outgrowing our services, they don’t meet our current needs and still they won’t allow us to have a take-away, who won’t? and Why won’t they? We are not a chocolate box advertisement so why can’t we have services we want as well as those we need and stop giving surrounding villages our business?

Post prompted by xfiles who wrote:
we need a doctors surgery in the village as there are more living here and the
village is getting bigger all the time

Whistleblower has alerted us to the possibility of a a new warehouse development at the old Desford Tubes site. Contact with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council planning department confirmed that, application has been made and is likely to be permitted but is still as yet pending a decision.

Some objections and comments have been noted, and given the raise in transport levels as noted by whistleblower you may wish too add to those. If you would like to make a comment or object to this application you can do this online at Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council The reference is: 10/00332/FUL.

I suppose on the positive side it means local employment and extra business for our shops and pubs. What are your views? And thank you whistleblower.

There are rumors that the Parish Council are short on funding and a suggestion to raise money on their behalf could do with your backing, or not as the case may be.

We have people willing to organise and run a regular Sunday Car Boot sale. This could be held on the village hall car park with use of their toilets. Plus side brings people to the village where our pubs may benefit from the business, it’s a chance to recycle items no longer needed by us but very useful to others, and it brings us together with the purpose to benefit the village. You never know perhaps money for Christmas lights could be found from the monies raised.

What say you, a good low input but profitable idea or simply tack, good enough for others but certainly not for us?

The concern being overlooked by customers sitting outside Real Flavours Delicatessen having coffee etc. Whats your take on this, do you feel anxious or vulnerable when people are sitting or standing close by, do you think that perhaps they are simply being discourteous, is it paranoia or more seriously a security issue that needs looking into?

GCSE examinations have been reorganised for the Englang v Slovenia match today. Yes I have checked with the Education Department and Groby Community College and yes the re-scheduling is within the legal limits.

Is it to allow the students, the turors or the parents who have to pick up and drop off allowance to watch the game, or is it patriotism? A mans idea to reschedule or a woman’s? I’ll vote for the former on both counts!

Suggestions for a “world cup special”, tell me what is so special……….it’s just a game! Of course this is a woman writing this one
